Dr. Russell Powell is a native of the Treasure Valley. He grew up attending school and working in Boise up until his missionary service in southern Mexico where he developed Spanish fluency and a love for Hispanic culture. He returned home and continued his education at Boise State University, during which time he met and married his wife. Dr. Powell graduated from Boise State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with emphasis in Human Biology.
